The South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana gave full support to the construction of the smelter by PT. Indo Nickel Industry (INI).
The construction of this smelter is located on an area belonging to the East Luwu Regency government covering an area of 300 hectares in Harapan Village, Malili District. East Luwu Regency.
Kapolda Nana with the Regent of East Luwu, H. Budiman, Chairman of the DPRD East Luwu, Aripin and the Head of the East Luwu Police AKBP. Silvester Simamora, Monday (13/06/2022) had the opportunity to visit and see firsthand the land plan for the smelter development.
GM PT.INI, Freddy Napitupulu who received a visit from the Kapolda group explained the smelter concept which is planned to be built this August.
"Thank you for coming, Mr. Kapolda and his entourage. Of course the concept remains environmentally friendly. We will keep 50 percent of the green area in this area, "said Freddy
According to him, what is meant by an environmentally friendly concept is where the technology that will be implemented will be industrial technology for software for battery raw materials.
"This smelter will process the ore through the furnace, so that nickel ore will be released later. So it has become a continuation of the ore that we have been shipping so far. Later the economic value can be many times. However, to arrive at the final product, applied technology is needed. So, from nickel ore that has been purified, it can be used for various products, one of which is batteries," he said
Regarding labor absorption, he said, later there would be thousands of workers needed
“Well, 8000 to 10000 workers. Maybe even more," he added.
